Training: Software and Data Carpentry workshops

This Fall (September and October 2020), BIOS² will host a two workshops to introduce Fellows and others to the basics of computer programming and working with data. This training consist of one Software Carpentry workshop (Sept 28-29 & Oct 5-6 @ 12-16 EDT) and one Data Carpentry workshop (Oct 19-20 & Oct 26-27 @ 12-16 EDT).

Software Carpentry will focus on programming. Topics covered will include writing shell scripts, version control via git and GitHub, and programming concepts in R including for loops, conditional programming and functions.

Data Carpentry workshops cover the basics of working with data: how to clean and validate data using OpenRefine, how to manipulate and visualize data in R, and how to store data in SQlite database
